You might be surprised to know that your un-assuming mid tier looking CD player from the 80's, contains one of the most coveted DAC chips out there, at least among audiophiles. That being the Philips made TDA 1541, and that little darling of a chip is living inside your estate sale bargain! This DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) chip has a very natural, analog sound quality, while also being highly dynamic and resolving. Do a quick search and you'll see that you got something pretty darn good. I have this same model (my first CD player) which I bought new back in 1987. I've had MANY optical disc drives over the years, of all varieties, but I've always kept the 473 in my system. It's the only player that compels me to stop, just sit and listen to the music, rather than have music on while I do something else. For it's special sound quality alone, I'd hold on to it!

I hope this never got released to the public. It's awful!

Favorite Track Selection can be used to remember a program for each CD that you own (up to 255 CD's). Basically you put in a CD, then you program the player to play the tracks in the order that you like, then you push FTS, then Program. The next time you insert that CD, all you have to do is push FTS, then Play to program your favorite tracks and start playing. There are some other button combinations to delete a CD from the memory of the player or to clear the entire FTS memory chip (an EEPROM).

I was at Mindrolling Monastery in Tibet back in 1999. I played this for monks and they all did a in sync group dance to it. The way they were moving in a group to music I had tears in my eyes. One of the many memories and moments I still keep with me today.

Confession: I’ve loved this version of the song since I borrowed the 45 from my friend in 1988. Fast forward to 2017. That same friend and I were both separated from our wives. We had all been friends for 30+ years. That year, I fell in love with his wife and chaos ensued. She’d sing me this song while we were dating because she knew I loved it. Needless to say, none of it ended well. But I’ll say it anyway.

Love the backstory. As far as the CD player, the Belgian Magnavoxes with the TDA1541 DAC are high quality, near audiophile units. The ones made in Mexico, with the TDA1543 DAC are also very nice players. In this throw away day and age, finding something almost 40 years old that just requires a little maintenance (usually a belt for the tray) and will last another 40 years is a rarity.

The horn arrangements in this are just money.

This is actually the "Single Mix". It was released on the 12" maxi single, but never on 45, I don't believe. The 45 version is a shorter edit of this version, running 4:53.
